Cook Forest has its own unique beauty in every season
Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall
Discover over 7400 acres of
natural splendor in Cook Forest State Park. The heart of this renown area
is the Forest Cathedral - presenting the finest stand of virgin white
pine and hemlock in the Eastern United States.
Enjoy picturesque views while
hiking over 27 miles of well-marked awe-inspiring trailers. Go canoeing or tubing
down the wild and scenic Clarion River. Horseback riding, picnicking, and swimming are
very popular. Other local activities include: go-cart racing, bumper boats, water slides,
a petting zoo, golf and miniature golf. Hunting and fishing are major activities. Winter
months generally offer ice skating, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing and sledding. The
nearby Allegheny National Forest offers miles of open trailers for RVs, snowmobiles, and
the start of the train ride to the famous Kinzua Bridge.
In autumn watch as the forest turns to brilliant shades of saffron yellow, scarlet red
and bright orange. Springtime brings the blossoms of fruit trees and dogwoods. Mountain
Laurel blooms in May, Rhododendron in June.
Visit the Old Sawmill Theatre for summertime theatrical performances by local talent,
and year round shopping for local arts and handcrafted items. Shopping enthusiasts will
find a wide variety of unique items in the country store and antique shops that line the
area's rural roads and farmlands.
Steaks, hot dogs, "some-mores" and casual conversation are always better at
your own campfire in the woods. Be alert and you will see deer, other forest animals, and
if luck is with you...a black
bear.
